“Protect your spirit, because you are in the place where spirits get eaten”- John Trudell.
I am creating photographic work for other Native Americans of the spirit world and our connection to the indigenous knowledge passed on of protecting the sacred. This body of work is fictional in practice but is detailed in facts shared from readings and oral stories told by those of the Tulalip, Quinault and Shoalwater Bay Indian Tribes.
We live in a world where your spirit can be taken away with little warning. The spirit is what drives all humans to their fullest potential, it is the higher self. In this contemporary age we live in, we are constantly being overwhelm by the opportunity to lose one’s own spirit. Tricks are played and we may get confused by our own selves. Know yourself, listen to your heart, dive deep into your intelligence and live for a greater cause. Those that come into your life to take you off your path do so with the intention of eating your spirit. It’s easy for the empty to want what they don’t got.
